Varieties grown in the United Kingdom
The biggest share of blackcurrants in the United Kingdom is grown by 35 farmers, who work on a contract basis with Lucozade Ribena Suntory. The varieties used for the Ribena-blend are confidential.
Blackcurrants are grown around Dundee (Scotland), in Western England and in South East England.
Further general information
Blackcurrant growing is historical in the British countryside and has always been very popular.
But during World War II, when citrus fruit didn’t reach the British Isles any longer, blackcurrants became the main fruit to provide children with vitamin C. This was the start of Ribena’s success story and the reason why every child in the United Kingdom is familiar with and loves the taste of blackcurrants.
